Happy Mailbox Monday
Looking out my window this morning was like an invitation to dive into clouds of marshmallow fluff. Undoubtedly colder, not as sweet but certainly as inviting. Before going to bed, the forecast was all but certain that the storm was imminent, but teachers never count on that. So with eight inches or more accumulation, I said, SNOW DAY!!! After all, teachers are just like students who never grew up.
Snow days are great, but many people don't realize they do have to be made up at the end of the year. Even still, during the cold, dark, bear sleeping days of winter they are welcomed.
So for Mailbox Monday, the above picture is of a woman from 1910 delivering mail by horse drawn carriage. She must have loved the cold and snow to do this job. Most of the time, in rural areas they even had to buy their own vehicles (some still do).

Monday Thoughts
1. Little Women's "women" seem so much older than our "little women" today.
2. One of my four greyhounds will trim his own nails. Lucky me.
3. I have to go shovel snow and now it doesn't seem like fluff.
4. Will mail come today with another ARC? Postal carriers, overnight carriers are amazing...they have to walk and drive in some of the worst conditions...Thank you.
5. Banana Split ice cream is irresistible..not fair.
6. My cat Owen Beanie thinks he is a dog and plays fetch.
7. My dog Webster thinks he is a hamster and will make a burrow out of blankets.

ReplyDeleteI love the imagery! "Marshmallow fluff"! I couldn't take the cold that comes with snow though. I guess that's why I live where I do. :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have some good reading ahead of you. I am still waiting on my copy of Outcasts United. I saw The Manual of Detection in the store the other day and it looked mighty appetitizing (in a reading sort of way--not for eating). And you have the new Laura Lippman book! I'll be curious to see what you think of all of your books when you get them.
I wish my dog would trim his own nails. I shouldn't complain though as he takes it pretty well. The cats are good about it too. Most of the time anyway.
I hope you find something special in your mailbox. Mine's been rather empty of late, and so I've got my fingers crossed that something makes it's way to mind besides all the advertisements and bills.

Enjoy your snow day! I was scheduled to be off and so could "pretend" I was snowbound - but got called into work. Oh well!

Literary...Well I also have two cats. So that's a lot of nails. Having Lion do his own pedicure is great!! LOL
ReplyDelete:) Nice mailbox last week! As a side note - I loved the picture. My great-great-great grandmother (I think that was enough greats) was actually the first female mail carrier in the Seattle/Bothell area. She also delivered the mail in a horse and buggy type vehicle.

That's a lot of books for one week. Hope you enjoy them all! We had 8 inches of snow, too, and after working all day from home, I had to go shovel. Not fun at all, especially with my daughter pelting me in the face with snowballs!
