He fought for months trying to get around on three legs. The pain, his ability to function and his quality of life suddenly became irreversible. Today he let me know that he was tired and it was time to say goodbye. In my heart I know he knew he couldn't go on. He was a dear sweet little furboy and I was lucky to have him for three years. He ran many races at the track and his couch potato life made him happiest of all especially when he scrunched up his bed to nest it just right.
Run FREE with the angels, Webster my sweetheart little boy!!!
Thank you for all your prayers of hope and understanding. It has helped me get through a difficult time. My blogger friends mean so much to me. Thank you!

Oh hon, I am SO sorry. I've been praying that he would feel better soon, but you did the right thing as hard as it was. You made his last three years the best he could've asked for and that's what matters.
We are all here for you and as a lot of us are animal owners, we can relate and are sending up good vibes Webster's way!
Lots of love, Amy.
Amy..Thank you so much. Your support is so helpful and needed. He was a special guy. Loved as we all love our pets. The greyhound people always say,
Hug Your Hounds, because you just never know. Thanks!
Oh, I'm so sad! I feel like I lost someone I knew! My heart goes out to you and to his fellow furs! Many hugs for all of you!
Rhapsody...Thanks..so much! I know how much you love seeing my dogs pics. I appreciate your kindness and your desperately needed hugs. You are so dear.
I' ve followed his struggles and you gave him the final gift releasing him from his pain. I'm so sorry for your loss. He reminds me of my black g'hound who we lost a few years ago.
I have tears in my eyes as I read your tribute to Webster. He was so lucky to have spent the last years of his life with someone as caring as you. HUGS to you....so sorry for your loss.
scottgal..Your words a truly comforting. I know you know the pain.
thanks for caring.
Diane..It means so much to hear from you and your heartfelt sympathy. Thank you for your kind words. It means so much to me.
I'm so sorry. I can only imagine the pain you're in.
Hello. I happened upon your site by accident while I was looking up book reviewers, and I read about Webster. I finished the July 2 entry with tears. I had never heard of greyhound rescue until now. What caring people you all are!
I've never had a dog, but we have had two greatly loved cats that we had to assist across the bridge. One was a calico who lived to be 21, and one yellow tom who lived to be 16.
There are people who scoff at feeling grief for an animal. I don't know how they can. Obviously they've never loved and been loved by a furry person. Though both my cats have been gone for years and we currently have a tiger cat who's almost 15, we still miss her predecessors. Each one was special, as was your Webster.
There's a wonderful old book called Beautiful Joe's Paradise I know you would love if you can find a copy. Read it with tissues in hand.
Ruth Sims
Kathy, Thank you for caring.
Ruth,
It was so comforting to read your comments as they made me realize my mission so to speak. Rescuing greyhounds has made me see life in such a different way. They have given me so much more than I have given them. Having to let go of a foster dog is bittersweet, satisfying that you help transition a race dog to a family pet. On the other hand having to say goodbye to a temporary member of the family is sad. In any case, I loved being a foster mom. I failed twice. Once with Webster and then with Wizard. I have two others.
Webster was actually saved twice, once from the track and once from a bad situation..so he came to me at age seven.
I'm glad you stumbled upon my blog and I hope learning a little bit about greyhound rescue has been worth finding Bookworms Dinner. They are amazing animals, loving and gentle. They have no desire to race and prefer their soft bed. Hence their nickname as "couch potatoes".
Thank you for stopping and I will definitely look for that book. You are so thoughtful to write.
