Mailbox Monday, August 30, 2010

(The pic is from The National Postal Museum, 1907)

Welcome to Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme created by Marcia from The Printed Page where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased, or otherwise obtained over the past week. Mailbox
Monday currently is on tour, and this month’s host is Shanyn from Chick Loves Lit.

This week I am so excited about the three books I received. I'm also very late with my post, but I had to present a workshop to teachers today and I went into work very early to set up. Now I'm chilling with the dogs. They are so tired and had a long day too.

The first book came to me all wrapped up with some lemon candy drops complements of Reagan Arthur Books. I love these candies as they remind me of my mom. What a nice surprise! It's like getting flowers out of the blue and it made me smile.
The book is : 13 rue Therese by Elena Mauli Shapiro.

From Sourcebooks I received The Forever Queen, by Helen Hollick

From Internet Review of Books and Viking Press I received

This week I had another fantastic mailbox. I also broke down and visited a bookstore and purchased online. I have kept out of the bookstores all summer, so I think I deserve a break. It is so hard to stay away from the places that give you so much joy and entertainment. Love those booksellers.

I want to thank all the publishers and authors who sent new books to the Bookworm Dinner's Mailbox.

The Power, by Rhonda Byrne (Purchase)

The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, by Stieg Larsson (Purchase)

Lessons in Disaster, by Gordon M. Goldstein (Purchase-Vietnam Challenge)

The Lonely Polygamist, by Brady Udall (Purchase for Book Club)

Extraordinary, by Nancy Werlin (Picnic Review)

The Lacuna, by Barbara Kinsolver (Harper-Blog Tour)

To Account For Murder, by William C. Whitbeck (ARC-Permanent Press)
The Dissemblers, by Liza Campbell (ARC-Permanent Press)

BUDDY ZOOKA IN THE FRENCH QUARTER AND BEYOND

To Your Dog's Health
by Mark Poveromo
978-0-9843017-0-6
$14.95, February 2010
104 pages
Poor Man's Press

I was delighted to receive this book in last weeks mail, sent to me by the publicist. Taking care of my greyhounds and maintaining their health is extremely important to me, so I am anxious to read this book. The writer happens to own Thomaston Feed store in a town not too far away from me in Connecticut. I hope to take a visit up to his store sometime soon, but until then, his book looks like a must have for pet owners who are OCD about their fur babies. I can't wait to tell you all about this one.

In August Mailbox Monday hosted in August by Chick Lit Loves.

All About It

"Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
If you’re new to Mailbox Monday welcome! Thank you to everyone who stops by Mailbox Monday. Whether you comment or visit I appreciate your taking the time to drop in."

First, I wanted to thank Dar at Peeking Between the Pages, as I received Linger and Shiver, by Maggie Stiefvater from her recent online giveaway. These two books were sent to me direct from Scholastic and I can't wait to get my eyes on them. LOL Thanks again Dar, I am a lucky blogger.

I received Beastologist, by Nathaniel Fludd via The Picnic Basket and I will feature this soon on my new meme, All About Children Thursday. You might even want to feature a book or two you received in your mailbox there.

I received Russian Winter, by Daphne Kalotry from Harper Collins and it looks really great. Listen to the quote of Lauren Belfer, author of A Fierce Radiance, from the jacket,
"Russian Winter is a marvel that had me canceling appointments and staying up half the night, as it swept me into a world of intrigue, poetry and romance. Set against the perfection of ballet, the hardships of life in the Soviet Union after World War II, and the anguish of families lost and found. Russian Winter reminds me of why I love to read fiction."
I don't know about you, but that makes me curious and ready to put everything aside in my life to start reading it. I can't wait.

I received The Wave, by Susan Casey from Doubleday. Of course anything about the ocean intrigues me having the sand of the shore in my shoes forever.

I'm really excited about my mailbox this week. How about you, what did you get?
