Sunday Salon-July 12, 2009

The Sunday Salon.com

Happy Sunday Salon to everyone. This is my collection of Native American flutes and yes I play them all. They come in various keys unlike the classic silver flute for orchestra. If you want to play in the key of A, you need to have an A flute. Hence the reason for so many.

Well, that is not exactly true. I have some duplicates because I collect them, some have special wood, inlaid stones like turquoise and abalone, and they all have different animals called a fetish. The animals cover up an important opening that helps make the flute resonate.

I like to relax by playing these wooden flutes. So, often on Sunday I will read and then play a little. My fur babies love the sound and they will nod off to sleep listening to the soft sounds. These flutes are made by Miguel Medina of Singing Tree Flutes.

Today I am reading American Lion, by John Meacham. I can definitely see why he won a Pulitzer Prize for his biography, so don't let it slip by you.

I am not a fan of Andrew Jackson because of his audacious Indian removal policy. However, there is much more to this President than I ever knew. His marriage was cloaked with scandal and his closest confidant married a woman with a sordid past causing Washington gossip to infiltrate his Presidency. To his credit, first and foremost he was determined to keep the Union whole and he treated the country as if it were family. This book reads like a novel and believe it or not has me nailed down. Who would have guessed with my rancor toward this president I would have this reaction?

Another project I keep avoiding is painting my dining room. Maybe there will be some time to get to that challenge. Reading is so much more fun.

Happy Sunday to all!!
What will you be doing today? Are you reading something really great or just so, so?
Please tell me.

Hi, Donna! That's an amazing collection! I love the sound of wooden flutes. I could probably curl up with your fur babies while you play too. :-)

Reading is definitely more fun than doing the chores and household decorating. I'm sure you'll get to the painting soon enough.

I am not sure how much reading I will get done today. Hubby and I do not have any special plans for our anniversary, and so I may be able to fit some in. We'll see.

Have a great week!

I have to try and do my chores before I read otherwise I will never get anything done. So I do my jobs quickly!

I love your collection of flutes - what a beautiful hobby you have.

Thank you for your lovely comments concerning my father in law - it was very thoughtful of you.

LF...I didn't get to painting on Sunday. My sister is coming to help today. I am so grateful.
Happy you like my flutes. The dogs are so lazy when I play.

Scrap Girl...Your welcome....Glad you like the flutes.

Rhapsody...I am lucky. I was a professional flutist and soloist years ago. Now I like the wooden more primitive sound.

Naida...I'd rather be reading too. I am fortunate I can play.

Dar...You can listen to me above. LOL

Your flutes are absolutely gorgeous! I play regular flute, although haven't really put forth effort since high school. No wonder the music makes your fur babies happy. =)
