Mailbox Monday, August 23, 2010

(The pic is from The National Postal Museum, 1907)

Welcome to Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme created by Marcia from The Printed Page where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased, or otherwise obtained over the past week. Mailbox
Monday currently is on tour, and this month’s host is Shanyn from Chick Loves Lit.

This week I had another fantastic mailbox. I also broke down and visited a bookstore and purchased online. I have kept out of the bookstores all summer, so I think I deserve a break. It is so hard to stay away from the places that give you so much joy and entertainment. Love those booksellers.

I want to thank all the publishers and authors who sent new books to the Bookworm Dinner's Mailbox.

The Power, by Rhonda Byrne (Purchase)

The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, by Stieg Larsson (Purchase)

Lessons in Disaster, by Gordon M. Goldstein (Purchase-Vietnam Challenge)

The Lonely Polygamist, by Brady Udall (Purchase for Book Club)

Extraordinary, by Nancy Werlin (Picnic Review)

The Lacuna, by Barbara Kinsolver (Harper-Blog Tour)

To Account For Murder, by William C. Whitbeck (ARC-Permanent Press)
The Dissemblers, by Liza Campbell (ARC-Permanent Press)

War and Music, by Max Evans (ARC-HNR Review)

You Don't Look Like Anyone I Know, by Heather Sellers (Won-Shelf Awareness)

Over the week I had a soft-copy of Myne Whitman's book A Heart to Mend. I would review it on my blog in due course... but now I am reading another debut novel Powder Necklace... Just finished Wole Soyinka's You Must Set Forth at Dawn, a memoir...

Nice mix of books! Enjoy! I found you via Chick Loves Lit -- but I'm following because I think we like the same kinds of books.

You did have a great week in books! I'm impressed that you stayed out of the bookstores as long as you did! Happy reading!

I'm a HUGE fan of The Secret, but the reviews I've seen so far of The Power have been disappointing. I've been listening to The Secret audiobook regularly for nine months and it has made a big difference in my life. I'm a believer! Please let me know what you think of The Power!

Amy..I guess it's ok to spluge once in a while...but that TBR pile is huge.

Alayne..thanks for stopping. Yes, a doctor actually recommended the Larson to me.

Gautami..thanks for stopping

Nana..I looked up your books and went to your website. You Must Set Forth at Dawn looks like a very interesting read. Enjoy your books.

Aisle B...I was so lucky. I am loving this weeks books. Some weeks we get very lucky.

Pussreboots..I'm reading that for a blog tour, but I love her writing and this one excites me.

Biblio...I know Lacuna is calling me every day. LOL

Bermuda...wasn't I a good girl?

Iliana...I know I'm looking forward to reading the Larsson books. If I can ever get to it. LOL

Audra...I think we do to.

Beth...Thanks..I thought the pic was cute and my love of history speaks. You and I are the only two who haven't read the Larsson. LOL

Lady Q...I really love this book. I never read The Secret, but the author has incorporated some of that book in this one, from what I understand. I have really absorbed her thoughts and insight.

Elizabeth...Thanks...I'll be visiting you.

Holly...Thanks or checking it out.

Nymeth...My anxiety is kicking in with some of the books I have to read. Just can't wait.

Anna...I weeded this week and brought some books to the teachers at school.

Serena..Thanks..I was happy.

Naida..I like Kingsolver also, so I was glad to be part of the Lacuna book tour coming up.

Alice...Yep...I finally had to buy it myself...I had heard and read too much about this trilogy to avoid it any longer. Besides, one of my doctor's recommended it.
