Trainer arrested after at least 20 greyhounds found dead at Ebro | ebro, greyhounds, least - News - The News Herald

Words can't express my emotions when I was told about this hellaciously, heinous and senseless crime of intentional animal abuse. I can't even fathom the fear and pain these hounds suffered before they died as a result of their perfidious owners. It has been reported that their mouths were duct taped, could barely breath and starved to death. My heart is breaking for these beautiful greyhounds as they run free now.

Sunday Salon-Plea for help for Thea the Greyhound!

This is a special Sunday Salon request today.

Thea is a 9 year old greyhound who jumped from a second story window last week and broke her two front legs. No one is sure why she jumped through the screen. It could have been the wind from a storm, but she was spooked for some reason. Her mom is an enthusiastic supporter of greyhound adoption. She was at work at the time and was notified about this catastrophic accident by someone who found her outside her apartment. The medical costs are in excess of $9,000 for the veterinary bills. If you are able to help in any way please see this link and help Thea the Greyhound. Thank you, Wisteria

The Sunday Salon.com

This has been a stressful week and an even more stressful 24 hours. Mystery, my youngest greyhound has been sick and I had her at the veterinarian this week. She hasn't been herself. Yesterday afternoon I came home to feed my four and let them out. Once settled down, I picked up the book I was reading, Breakfast in Bed, a hot romance. I am trying to finish this one for a review I owe for Sourcebook.

All of a sudden Mystery was clawing the floor and couldn't stand up. She was having a seizure. It was awful and the fear in her eyes was enough to make me panic, but I knew I had to remain focused. Her heart was racing and she couldn't stand up, she didn't know where she was. I'm not so sure she even knew who I was.

After calling my vet, then the emergency hospital in Katonah (one hour away) they needed to see her. I scrambled to get her into the car...by lifting 65lbs of greyhound. I was fortunate to have my two great friends who I just left in the area offer to drive. I don't know what I would have done without them, I was frazzled.

We were at the hospital for 4 hours and after numerous tests and exams, at this moment the cause is still unknown, with any number of possibilities. They wanted to keep her 24hours, but since I have Sunday off, she is by my side right now. She made it through the night, and is still sleeping. She may have a seizure disorder, it may be an isolated incident, it may be something we won't talk about right now. I'm hoping it will go away. The people at Katonah Hospital in New York were amazing and I can't thank them enough. They really treat the patient and owners with respect and dignity with sincere empathetic eagerness to help.

Hoping you can all send some special white light to my girl Mystery to help her get better. She is a little pistol, my alpha of the pack and is normally the spit-fire, 45mph couch potato that rules her brothers and torments the kitties. Even Owen Beanie, her arch nemesis, knew something was really wrong, he began howling a plaintive moan when Mystery was stricken. He just knew.

My reading has been way off this week. I will be finishing this rather uncharacteristic book for me, Breakfast in Bed. Probably, at this point it is better I am not reading anything emotionally draining, so this works.

I will be starting Eternal on the Water,by Joseph Monninger, which is a First Look Book Club selection due up for discussion this week at Barnes and Noble.

Have a great week everyone!

Sunday Salon, Happy Birthday Mystery

Mystery, my first greyhound is 5 today. Yes, she was named after the genre. Why else? Everyone loves a Mystery!!!!

My apologies for missing last week. I have been coping with personal "stuff" and the year end pressures of teaching in a school always takes a toll.

First, Yippee..."School is out for the Summer!!!" thanks to the words of Alice Cooper. I and fellow teachers were dancing with my automated chipmunk to the famous tune on Friday. Yeah, we're totally nuts, no pun intended.

Second, this week I managed to finish up reading "American Hidden History", by Kenneth C. Davis. He also wrote the familiar NYT best selling, Don't Know Much About History." This book was intended to correct many of the inaccuracies in our school textbooks, and also to tell about omissions of those who were key players during the founding of our nation. Who really brought the first slaves to the Jamestown? If Revere didn't say, "The British are Coming." then what did he say?

What about women? Three women in particular were not really written about. In one case her story was totally misrepresented. Most of us know about Anne Hutchinson, but not the true story. I doubt that many of us know about Mary Rowlandson, who wrote, The Sovereignty and Goodness of God, one of America's first best selling books. The third neglected heroine Hannah Dustin was captured by an Abenaki party of warriors in the late 1600's. She was taken away but her infant daughter was savagely murdered by the Abenaki natives. One day while the Indians were sleeping, Hannah took revenge and planned to escape. Before leaving she killed 10 Indians, three women and seven children sparing one old woman. She left, but came back for their scalps as proof . She returned home and at that time she was the "most famous woman in America. " Do you remember this woman's name? I know I had never heard of her.

It wasn't until 1874 Davis says she was recognized when a statue was sculpted and erected in her image in one hand holding a hatchet, the other the scalps. These three women are an examples of the information Davis brings forth in his history book of hidden history.

For this post, I focused on the women in this chapter entitled "Hannah's Escape," because recently I have become more and more incensed by the lack of details or even information about the contributions of women in history. It is as if women didn't exist other than to stay at home. I don't believe that happened. I believe there were many with a will and drive to act whether it was voluntary or involuntary to help contribute to the formation of the country. I believe it is important to correct the fallacies, research and edit the textbooks. We owe it to the country and our children, but especially to those strong women who fought so hard alone or along side the Founding Fathers. The country had mothers who, along with being a mother with children, were Founding Mothers hidden in our history, without anyone knowing it. Kudos to Kenneth Davis for righting the wrongs of how we see our history.

Lastly, BAFAB contest to start this week Tuesday. I told you I've been going crazy. But I will come through...promise.!!!!

Special Note: J Kaye.....I haven't forgotten you. Hang in there. LOL
