Mystery Update, February 15, 2010

Here is my little girl Mystery trying to get comfortable, and yes she is so spoiled she sleeps on the leather couch.

We finally know what is wrong with her, but unfortunately, she is not out of the woods yet. Last week she had another seizure of sorts and I had to take her back to the hospital. When she got there, again, like the last time she snapped out of it and appeared back to normal. This time, however the event lasted way over an hour. The vet was baffled! Then, while the vet was examining her, she let out a howl/scream that was chilling and the vet had merely touched her neck. Dr. L, realizing something was very wrong kept her for the day to do x-rays. When I returned after work to get her, I had a consult with the doctors who showed me her x-rays and explained her problem.

Apparently, it is a disc injury that presses on her spinal cord and then causes paralysis in her legs and neck. Hence the reason she appears to be having a stroke or seizure.

The vet has been treating her with muscle relaxers and pain medicine in various strengths and doses. Night time is the worse for her, and consequently, I don't sleep either. I feel so bad for her, and I end up holding her to help with her pain. We were back at the vet today, and they have me trying something else with her in hopes that she will get relief.

Thank you, thank you, for all your kind words and wishes for her recovery. We are both very grateful and I know she knows that everyone is sending her get well wishes. She is sleeping right now as I am writing this post. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Oh that is just too horrible! Every once in a while one of my bone spurs gets knocked into my spine, so I have a sense of what poor little Mystery is going through! But what great luck that it happened this time in front of the vet so they could diagnose her. Poor little girl! I wish I could come help hold her!!!!

Poor Mystery! It's good that they know the cause, but I hope they can manage her pain. Hugs to you and Mystery.

Disc injuries are so, so painful. Poor thing. No wonder she has been so out of it! At least you know what you are dealing with now. I hope they can figure it out so that she can heal.

What a relief to finally know what's wrong! I hope and pray that the doctor is able to find the right dosage for her so she can have some relief herself.

It's so hard, seeing them suffer so and not being able to do anything to help them. Is there anything the doctor can do besides try and ease the pain? Is it fixable?

Oh poor Mystery. I do hope the vet finds the right cure for her. I hate to think of any animal suffering. At least now they have something to work on.

Oh my, poor Mystery. I can only imagine how painful that must be for her. Thankfully now they know what it is and can hopefully help her. My prayers are still with her that she'll have a speedy recovery and feel like her old self again.

Ti...Thanks Ti and thanks for caring too.
Literary Feline. It is hard not knowing. The medicine is just making her somewhat comfortable.
She seems bad at early evening than later in the middle of the night. It is not fixable..just managed with pain meds. Thanks for caring.
